We’ve been having beautiful weather for riding in Sonoma County. So, I thought I would start sharing some of my rides with you. Sonoma County is blessed with a wide variety of cycling opportunities. This ride is a mixed-terrain ride. It has a little paved road, a little fire road and a little bit of single track. I recommend a mountain bike or a cyclocross bike. This is a challenging ride in a remote part of the county so it is a good ride to do with a friend or at least let somebody know where you’re going and when you should be back. Your equipment should be in good working order and you should have basic set of tools and supplies to fix your bike –And Food– And WATER . This is one version of what I call the Old Cazadero Loop ( AKA Old Caz). The focus of this ride is Old Cazadero Road. This is an old county road that is no longer maintained and has one creek crossing without a bridge so you need to use caution, maybe bring some water shoes . It can become dangerous during the winter. Old Caz is closed to unauthorized motor vehicles and it runs through private ranches. There are people who use it to access their land so you may encounter a truck or jeep. The road has several gates that are frequently closed and sometimes locked. If they are locked, then you will need to go over, under or around. Leave the gates the way you found them. And this is private property so please respect no trespassing signs.
Here is a link to the route

If you need to get your bike in shape before this ride Brian at Russian River Cycle Service can probably get you set up.

There are very few services along this route but there are some. Cazadero Supply has some basic bicycle supplies

Cazadero is also home to Raymond’s Bakery a great spot for baked goods both sweet and savory. They have good sandwiches and coffee too:

This ride is an adventure and all adventures have risk. A little precaution and preparation can go a long way to managing the risk. Have an adventure!
